MILLER & MARANTA
The Basel-based architectural firm Miller & Maranta has established itself
internationally with projects such as the Schwarzpark apartment building
in Basel (2004), the careful restoration and extension of Gottfried Semper's Villa Garbald in Castasegna (2004) and the addition of the Old Hospice on the Gotthard Pass (2010). Currently, around 30 employees are working on projects in Switzerland and abroad.
The urban planning and architectural formulations react in a differentiated way to aspects of the specific local situation - but always in a contemporary language. The focus is on tracing memories, moods, materials, sound and light conditions of the respective location. The specificity of the respective site is reinterpreted with selfconfident and independent buildings, so that ultimately site and interpretation overlap.
With the expansion of the Museum Gletschergarten in Lucerne (2022) and the residential buildings Hardstrasse in Basel (2021), they bear witness to the ongoing architectural research that the architects have been conducting for many years. The Basel-based firm was founded in 1994 by Quintus Miller and Paola Maranta. Jean-Luc von Aarburg has been a partner in the office since 2013.
