BRUTHER

Stéphanie Bru and Alexandre Theriot founded Bruther in Paris in 2007. Bruther represent a new generation of French designers is taking the country’s architecture in a new direction, from a position of opulence and excess to one grounded in humanism.
Today, the office is based in Paris and Zurich and works in architecture, research, education, urban planning and landscape.
BRUTHER’s projects take the design back to the essentials, exploring the fields of architecture, urbanism, landscape, research and teaching. They seek a design for resistance, free from any decision related to a determined mannerism, style, fashion or superfluity.
The projects suggest a delicate balance between strategy and form, rigor and freedom, particular and generic, immediacy and evolutivity. Combining program and future, the projects stand for open infrastructures, that are able to answer to a multitude of future possibilities and to a vast malleability of uses.
BRUTHER takes part of a « nouvelle vague » of practices, which contribute to a radical renewal of the French architectural culture. Having been granted numerous awards and contests, the practice was the object of a monograph entitled « Introduction » in 2014, and of numerous international publications and of a multitude of international conferences. In 2020, Parisian Bruther is the winner of the Swiss Architectural Award.
Since 1998 Alexandre Theriot and Stéphanie Bru have developed a career in teaching, both on theory fields and architectural projects. They are regularly invited to contribute in numerous international schools such as EPF in Lausanne, UQAM in Montréal or Stutgart. Stephanie Bru and Alexandre Theriot have been teaching at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH) since 2019.
